At Accent Fresh Ltd we take our environmental responsibilities seriously and feel it’s important to do everything we can to minimise our impact on the world around us. From the very beginning our company ethos has always been to promote and source local, seasonal produce which by its very nature fosters low food miles and supports a sustainable approach – however our goals don’t stop there…
In 2019 we conducted a review of activities across our business to plan a greener future for our operation. In 2022 we worked closely on a project with The University of London to understand how to measure our Green House Gas (GHG) emissions and have now adopted a plan to work towards net zero. Since then we have made industry leading strides in this area and were delighted to have been awarded Carbon Charter Silver Status Award in 2024 for our achievements in reducing our GHG emissions.
Despite already having some solar panels our electricity usage was identified as a significant factor and we immediately added to our existing solar panels to completely cover our roof space, bringing our capacity up to 160kw.
Other measure we have taken to reduce our carbon footprint include:
- Fleet replacement within 5 years with a focus on the newest and most efficient technologies.
- Efficient route planning
- Promoting an awareness of sustainability within our teams.
- Reduction of picking bags and product packaging – “naked cucumbers” in summer and loose herbs in winter are just two examples of this
- Streamlining of administrative processes to reduce paper usage
- 100% recyclable carbon neutral chlorine free paper
- Zero waste to landfill goal
